Uncoated paper, or lightly coated paper, can be broadly classified into two categories: woodfree paper and bond paper, with explanations as follows:
Bond Paper: Due to its high proportion of long fibers, this type of paper is highly tough and has good fold resistance. It is commonly used for tickets, certificates, and other printed materials.
Woodfree Paper: Generally used for writing or book printing, this paper comes in blue-white, natural, or cream colors. Super white and high white bond papers have fewer long fibers and are classified as woodfree.
Lightly Coated Bond Paper: This type of paper, also known as smooth finish or supercalendered paper, is treated on the surface of the woodfree paper to improve its feel and color reproduction during printing.
Photocopy Paper: This paper belongs to the woodfree paper category. It has a low moisture content and is not suitable for offset printing. It is prone to misregistration and wrinkles during printing.
Recycled Paper: Made from recycled waste paper, recycled paper has the same quality as regular woodfree paper. It emphasizes environmental protection as its selling point.
Planner Printing Information
The most common paper printing method is offset printing, based on CMYK’s four colors. Monochrome printing only requires one plate, generally K, which is black. If it is color printing, four plates are needed. Each plate is used for plate making. Adjust CMYK values to present different colors.
CYMK respectively represents Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key plate black. We can set the four colors’ values from 0 to 100. Which colors need to be used? This value needs to be used to make a printing plate. Therefore, the more colors, The more printed copies are required.
Take an A5 notebook with 80 sheets and 160 pages as an example. Usually, it has a structure of five notebooks. Each notebook has 16 sheets and 32 pages. If the contents of each page are the same, they can share one page. If the contents of each page are different, then each of the five machines needs to be opened separately. Therefore, the light plate fee will increase the costs when arranging color printing.
In addition, when the manuscript is produced, the RGB color rendering will be different from that of CMYK, and there will be noticeable color differences during conversion. It is recommended to set it to CMYK from the beginning and set the bleed so that subsequent printing, binding, and trimming can proceed smoothly.
Supplementary knowledge
1. When using CMYK four-color overprinting, it is recommended that the sum of the four values should not exceed 250. If it exceeds, it will easily cause back-through problems due to too much ink.
2. When showing black, please use a simple K to adjust the percentage. If you use overprinting, it will easily cause overprinting problems.
